Using MarkUp for visual feedback
I have recently written a blog post about how we have improved our onboarding process. Using Asana for communication throughout the design and build process and Box for cloud storage and file sharing is a key part of our process now.
We have also ensured we provide first-class aftercare by using our learning portal to provide bespoke training to all of our clients.
The one area left to improve was the communication and feedback we get from clients when we share initial designs for their website. With MarkUp, we finally have the final piece of our quest for the perfect communication process!
What is MarkUp?
MarkUp is an incredibly simple tool for people to provide visual feedback. Clients will not need to create an account or provide any personal information apart from a name.
With MarkUp, they can see a visual representation of every page of their website. All they need to do it click on any part they want to be tweaked and a box will pop up for them to provide feedback.

Users can view each page in desktop/laptop view, tablet view and mobile view, so they can even provide feedback on a per-device level!
When users provide feedback a running log of all comments is available on the left and we as the designer can read, respond and resolve every comment.
MarkUp puts power at the fingertips of our clients. They can now easily provide excellent, visual feedback to ensure they get their perfect website.
How we will use MarkUp with Asana and Box
As we mentioned in our post about our new onboarding process, all clients will have access to their own collaborative Asana board. They will also have access to a shared folder on Box for sharing files.
MarkUp provides the perfect bridge between these tools. Once an initial design is completed for a website we can provide links on Asana to each page of the website to view on MarkUp. Clients can then have a look and comment. If they want a different image used on a website, for example, they can provide a link in MarkUp to the new image that’s on Box.
All of the websites we built are initially designed in Elementor. This is done so clients can view the website as a working website on as many devices as they have. Then with MarkUp, they can provide visual feedback and focus on the exact tweaks and changes they want to get exactly what they want from their new website.
Quality feedback required!
Improving the clarity of our communication is at the heart of using MarkUp. I’m finished dealing with vague emails. “Can you change the fourth image to one I sent you via email two days ago?”
No more re-reading emails five times to understand what is required and then potentially still getting it wrong! Visual feedback and quality feedback only.
The purpose of MarkUp is to provide an excellent way for clients to provide excellent feedback. No confusions over which image is the fourth image. Clients can now click on the image they want to be changed and provide a link on Box to the exact one they prefer.
In summary
We’re really happy to start using MarkUp. Alongside Asana, Box and our learning portal, it is another part of what ensures we provide excellent communication throughout the whole web design process.
